YouTube channel LedZepFilm has released never before seen footage of Led Zeppelin performing live in 1970 at Bath, England.
Led Zeppelin played a legendary headline set at the Bath Festival of Blues and Progressive Music, June 28, 1970. Held at the Royal Bath and West Showground in Shepton Mallet, England, the massive crowd of over 200,000 people watched a three-hour performance that featured the live debut of “Immigrant Song.”
It’s quite obvious that the song is new to the band, because they seem to have a spot of trouble starting the song, and then vocalist Robert Plant seems to have a little hardship in remembering the lyrics, especially the first verse.
Still, footage of this nature is awesome to come across. Included are a lot of backstage, behind-the-scenes shots (some with no audio) before the band takes the stage. The show at the Bath festival is largely considered a major turning point in the band becoming superstars, finally winning over their native Britons after conquering the United States during the previous two years.
“After 56 years, I am proud to present all the 16mm footage shot by Peter Whitehead and Ernie Vincze of Led Zeppelin‘s performance at the Bath Festival on June 28th, 1970,” says ledzepfilm, the YouTube channel. “Rumoured for decades, this is a monumental addition to the Led Zeppelin canon and an essential watch for any fan.”
